Denver Soaring Society

Experience the joy and serenity of Soaring.  Learn to soar on silent wings etched against a clear blue sky.

The Denver Soaring Council is a non-profit organization of soaring enthusiasts.  It was formed in 1972 to promote the enjoyment of this fascinating sport to interested individuals and their families.

Training

For power pilots, transition training is available for a DSC member who already has a private pilot certificate or higher rating in a fixed wing aircraft.  No written exam or flight medical certificate is required. The minimum flight experience for a power pilot to earn a glider rating is:

10 hours of glider flight time.
20 training flights; three within the last 60 days.
2 hours of solo flight time with 10 or more solo flights.

For the experienced (and not so experienced) glider pilot, DSC has several Certified Glider Flight Instructors who are willing to work with DSC members on currency, flight reviews, cross country instruction, navigation, and most of all safety.

Club Meetings

DSC normally meets at 7p.m. on the forth Thursday of each month at Centennial Airport Control Tower Ashbrook room.  The meeting are open to all individuals that are interested in soaring. In November DSC meets on the second Thursday, due to Thanksgiving. In December, the club has a family pot luck at various members homes instead of a meeting.

Club Activities

Soaring Camps are planned during the year at locations around Colorado.  Not only do we enjoy the best mountain soaring and scenic locations, but the chance to get to know one another in an informal and relaxed setting.  Barbecues are scheduled during the summer months for members and their families and friends.

Base of operations:

DSC operates at Boulder Airport.  We are located off of Independence Road at mid-field on the North side of the runway -- just look for the silver Airstream trailer and our blue sign.  Our flying activities are normally on weekends, but soaring and instructions are also available during weekdays by prior arrangement.
